How to Make Sushi at Home
Sushi is one of the best tasting dishes that you eat anywhere. Most of the time it is usually enjoyed in great Japanese restaurants.
But often times you will have people that want great tasting sushi at home. I should know. I own a Sushi Restaurant Murrieta and get asked all the time by my customers. They always try to find out what the secret is to great sushi that they can make at home?
I always kid around and tell them it is impossible and they will have to always come to my restaurant. But seriously, if great sushi making tips are what you are after, listen up.
First thing is to make sure to have fun. Remember, you are not trying to make this for a Sushi restaurant Temecula full of people. You most likely are just making it for friends.
Remember great tasting food doesn’t have too look great. So relax and remember there will be a learning curve.
For the rice, remember it has to be sticky. So if you do not want rice all over the place, wash your hands often.
Another great tip is to try and not make the biggest sushi in the world. Yes everything tastes great. But when you try and put too much ingredients into one roll it will be a disaster. You are going to have rolls that don’t roll up. You will have ingredients spilling out because it is overstuffed.
Just do not do it.
Fourth piece of advice, be gentle. Resist the temptation to use too much force. When you make Sushi, all you have to do is gently roll. Too much pressure with your fingertips or hand and the rolls will come out looking funny or in odd shapes.
Final tip is using of knives. Obviously making sushi requires small pieces of fish. Well to prevent tearing of the fish make sure you moisten your knife. This gives you the ability to cut into it with the knife evenly. You are going to have a nicer cut of the fish that you can easily put into the sushi roll.
There you have it. Follow these few steps and you will be making great sushi like at my Sushi Restaurant Lake Elsinore.
Making Sushi doesn’t have to be hard. It can be enjoyable, fun, and of course delicious.

New Generation Sushi – An Offshoot Of Sushi For Western Culture
The increasing popularity of sushi in North America has given the birth to the creation of New generation sushi, normally known as gen sushi. Gen sushi is a sushi created to suit the Western palate, and is rarely found in Japan, as it appeals to the western tastes. People who fear to eat the standard raw fish sushi, can experience this type with a variety of vegetables, scallops and tuna. However, a few things are necessary to be kept in mind before you try gen sushi.
Gen sushi has taken on a decidedly western technique when it comes to sushi creation, adding area-specific ingredients and changing the shape, size and presentation format laid out by Japanese inventors. Crazy combinations of ingredients can be found inside sushi rolls, with names like the Caterpillar roll, Spider roll and even the style of sushi has changed.
A wide variety of American restaurants are present which offer sushi. Sushi is eaten in a unique style which needs to be followed whether you are trying gen sushi or traditional one. Following traditional methods depicting politeness is very necessary while dinning in a Japanese restaurant.
For instance, sushi should never be passed from one set of chopsticks to another when you are sharing your sushi platter with friends and family, as it is considered as uncivilized and unmannerly to do so at dinner. This custom is observed only at funerals in Japan.
Additionally, do not support your chopsticks by putting them on table with their edge lying on the plate. They should either entirely be on the table or on the plate.
Soy sauce is also another aspect of sushi eating manners which should be properly observed. Wasting soy sauce is considered ill manners in Japanese culture.
Soy sauce should only be used as much as required for leaving even a tiny amount of food on the table means serious disrespect for the sushi chef.
Gen sushi is available at a specialty sushi store, although many grocery stores and Asian markets do have stock for sushi now. It is also available in restaurants which specialize in this style of sushi, or you can simply visit a traditional sushi restaurant.Whether you are looking for a healthy alternative, enjoy Asian cuisine or just like to experience different styles of food, Sushi has proven to be the answer for many Americans. With its low fat, healthy character and delicious taste sushi really is the food of the future – even though it’s been around for more than a thousand years!

Important Differences Between Modern And Traditional Sushi
One of the most popular Japanese foods is Sushi. Sushi is not only famous in Japan, but it is popular all around the world for its low fat, healthy character and delicious taste. Sushi has evolved and has taken on different variations and flavors, one of them being the American sushi.
The Japanese sushi and the American sushi are quite different from each other. Most Japanese sushi comprise of fish, either raw or treated. The American sushi has options ranging from prawn tempura to vegetarian sushi. Even the presentation format, shape and size are considerably different apart from the ingredients.
The sushi originally served was very different from the sushi being served in Japan and America. As the sushi was then made through fermenting rice and fish, only the fish was eaten and the rice was not eaten, due to the sour taste. These days, this type of sushi is only served near Lake Biwa.
When the Japanese went to theater and festivals, they thought of inventing finger food so they could eat it without chopsticks and take it along with them. This gave birth to the era of modern sushi, that could be eaten by hands.
Many traditional Japanese people still love to eat sushi using chopsticks, with the exception of Temaki. A Temaki is a roll shaped like an ice cream cone with a variety of fillings, and is eaten by hands.
Many other types of sushi include sukeroku, sashimi, nigiri, inari, oshi and maki. Americans also love these types of sushi and are familiar with them as these are served by many sushi restaurants in America. In particular Sukeroku is very famously available in America because of vegetarian nature of sushi. Another name for this sushi is ume sushi and it is considered as a low quality sushi with ingredients available from common grocery stores.
Another difference is of quality. The traditional Japanese reverence for good quality food in small portions has dissipated in America, with sushi bars deferring to the American-sized appetite and attraction to colorful food in big portions.
Sushi can be made at home, though you need a lot of practice to master this form of art. In Japan sushi chefs take years to train and practice before they are able to serve high quality sushi. If you wish to experience the perfect sushi, you should visit a Japanese restaurant which is authentic and has a good rating.
