Potato salad Simple But Healthy
Most people are acquainted with potato salad as it has long been the standard at family picnics and other summer activities. Everybody has their own idea of the way to make it though , and if you look through cookbooks and through recipe sites online, you’re going to find masses of different recipes from which to pick. Some like a particularly easy salad, and others like to have something with additional work involved. It’s been about for a long time, and will generally always be well-liked for summer meals.
The basics of potato salad are potatoes, of course, mayonnaise, and onion. However, when I make it, there is no onion added. I suspect it ruins the flavour of the salad, but just about everyone disagrees with me on that point. If I make it for a picnic, I bring a bowl of onions with me so if somebody wants them, all they must do is sprinkle them on their portion. I also like to add boiled and chopped eggs to my potato salad, and most say that they believe it adds a great taste. If my husband has his way, he adds some Miracle Whip, but I customarily stop him before he can get that far.
Others like to use more electrified recipes for potato salad, and I think it often depends on how someone was raised. We often like foods how we grew up with them, and that means trying something new, like a different tasting potato salad, is a bit daunting. Some dive in and find something new to love, and others will avoid anything that they are not acquainted with. I am scared that I am one of the avoiders, but that doesn’t mean I don’t believe folks should make and share whatever recipe they like and know well.
If you’re looking for new ways to enjoy potato salad, you only have to look as far as your computer. Recipe sites have thousands of recipes to share, and there are always quite a few for potato salad. Some even make a great low carb salad using cauliflower instead of the white potato so they can enjoy the same foods as everybody else when out at a picnic. There are also cookbooks out there that have tons of different ideas for this salad, and some that are even dedicated to the summer meals that might include this and other traditional fare.

Baking Potato With Microwave Is This Good?
It’s only 2 days before payday and your cupboard is looking pretty slim. The last time you shopped for groceries, each single item on your list had gone up significantly and you had to trim your list accordingly. So what’s for dinner? As the old saying goes, when times get tough, the tricky get going. Here’s an idea for dinner that fulfills all of your objectives. Mouth watering , filling, healthy and quick to fix. A single huge potato, bits of this and that and your microwave will provide a satisfying meal in just minutes.
The microwave baked potato supplies the base for your dinner. Instead of wait 45 minutes to an hour for an oven-baked potato, try the microwave baked potato. Some purists claim that a microwave baked potato does not stand up to the oven baked potato because the texture of the finished potato is a little different. Don’t believe it! A large potato takes just 8 to ten minutes in the microwave. Be sure it’s completely cooked – that is the trick to simulating the cooker baked potato texture.
The microwave baked potato must be punctured with a fork all around, top, bottom and sides. This permits the potato to steam and cook just as its oven-baked counterpart.
While your potato is cooking, assemble your dressings. Very similar to a salad, you can pile leftovers and gourmet goodies to make this meal both a completely tasty and nutritious dinner.
A slice of bacon or ham contributes protein. Butter is a prerequisite. A touch of rasped cheese provides calcium. Do you have some parsley, chives or onions? Throw them into the mix. What about some cut olives? Your microwave baked potato is coming into flower now. Look thru your leftovers, too often going to waste. What about that small bit of corn, begging to be used? Pile that on your burgeoning microwave baked potato meal. One mushroom, cut and sauteed adds a gourmet touch. Hmm. What else? Aha! There is a spoonful of sour cream. More calcium, with the bonus of a tasty tasting topping.
Your frig doubtless holds heaps of bits of food that can complement your microwave baked potato meal. Herbs and spices can make this meal more than gratifying. The neutral flavour of the potato makes it a perfect partner for virtually anything you wish to add.
So when you think there’s nothing to eat, get that potato out and build yourself a tasty meal. Your microwave makes it quick and your seemingly bare cupboard will fill in the blanks. Eat hearty!.
