One of the most important things to bear in mind once you’ve decided you want to learn to cook is that everyone has to start somewhere. In other words, nobody is born with a natural ability to cook, but instead, learning to cook can take several years, and even then, you’ll still be able to continue improving. When you first start out, you’ll need to begin with the basics just like everyone else, but you also need to remember that whenever you learn to cook a new cuisine, such as Indian food, Chinese food, and Thai food, you’ll have to start with the basics all over again.
Some people cook because they have to in order to survive, but there also many who cook for the sheer pleasure of it. Another good tip to bear in mind if you’ve decided you want to learn to cook is that you should always start by trying your hand with the easier recipes, at least until you have a basic understanding. In fact you’ll find that most recipes which are featured in cook books nowadays will include a note regarding their level of difficulty. Of course you can also read through the recipe in order to decide whether or not you feel confident enough to try it. If you do try a recipe, and you don’t have much luck, don’t despair, because remember, Rome wasn’t built in and day.
Once you’ve learned how to drive a car, you never forget, and the same applies to cooking. Once you’ve learned the basics, you’ll always remember them, and in so doing, you’ll be able to continue improving your cooking skills for the rest of your life. Also, as you improve, and as you continue learning new recipes, preparing your own meals from scratch will be more of a pleasure then you ever thought possible, and certainly a lot more fun than buy frozen meals which you simply need to warm up.
When you first begin you’ll more than likely follow the recipes to the letter, but as you become more confident in yourself, and as you gain more experience, you’ll soon start changing some recipes to suit you. For example, you may like a certain recipe, but you feel it’s too spicy, and if that were to be the case, then of course you’ll know what you need to do in order to make it more enjoyable for yourself. You’ll also find that as time goes on you’ll start creating your own personal recipes, but of course this is not something you’ll learn about as far as the basics of cooking is concern. With that said, if you don’t take the time to learn the basics, you’ll never be experienced enough to create your own recipes.

To prep, make, and execute a fabulous meal at the exact moment you get your whole family to the table can be draining. Then there’s the cleaning up afterwards! Dinner can be a disorderly, tiresome occasion…. but it doesn’t have to be. As with anything, planning ahead and preparation can lead to greater success.

Box up or give to others utensils or appliances you no longer use, and better organize the things you do. 3. Keep a plastic grocery bag on the counter where you cook. Do so, and you can drop all the garbage straight in there, rather than having it build up and get scattered around. Once you’re done, then you just need to make a single trip to the garbage can.
4. Put your ingredients back in the cupboard after you use them. Spend some time cleaning up while you cook, and you will be amazed at how improved the state of your kitchen is when you’re done.
5. Buy in bulk. Keep dry goods in stock that you tend to use regularly in order to avoid last minute trips to the grocery store.
6. Clean a dish here or there. There will always be some dishes to wash after everyone is done eating, but by cleaning some of the dishes used in the preparation while you’re simmering or in between stirs, there will be less.
7. Set the table as early as possible. If this is done an hour or so earlier it is one less thing competing for your attention at mealtime.
8. Delegate. Ensure that family members know beforehand what is expected of them i.e. clearing the plates, doing the dishes etc.
