After the pork is nice and marinated, you’re ready to start cooking it on the gas grill. Since pulled pork requires an extended cooking time to become tender, you will need to grill it differently than what you would do for grilling things such as chicken or shrimp. Unlike most grilling recipes where you directly grill the food directly above the burner, for slow cooking items it is best to set up your grill to cook with indirect heat so the meat will be nice and tender. It is pretty easy to set up your grill so you can cook with indirect heat. All you need to do is place a pan of water on the bottom grate of the grill and cooking the meat directly over the pan of water. Once you have made all the necessary grilling preparations, the next step is to fire it up to be between 215 to 220 degrees. It takes a lot of patience – you’ll likely be waiting anywhere from 6 to 8 hours for it to be done. Once the meat has reached a temperature of 165 degrees and is cooked all the way through you are ready to take it off the grill to pull it apart.

Tearing the pork apart shouldn’t be too hard, especially if you have cooked it long enough. You can either use two forks or choose to use your hands while wearing gloves. Just be careful you don’t get burnt, since the pork will likely be very hot. Then you can decide to cover it in your favorite barbecue sauce and let it cook for another 10-15 minutes, stirring it and checking to make sure the sauce is still evenly coating it and not drying up. To serve the pulled pork, most people prefer it served on rolls to make a sandwich. Side dish ideas can be any of your favorite barbecue fare such as cole slaw or pasta salad.

It isn’t difficult to make your own pulled pork and you don’t need to be a professional BBQ chef. If you can keep it simmering at a constant temperature for several hours you can make delicious and tender pulled pork without a lot of effort. Most of all, remember to have fun!
