The Slow Cooker’s History

The slow cooker’s origin is not from long ago.. The electric bean cooker was initially made in the beginning of the 1960s by the “West Bend Corporation”. The Bean pot was initially introduced as a cooker. It was basically a crock pot on a tray that heated up. Actually, the first true forrunner of slow cookers was the Beanery. The one responsible for developing it is the “Naxon Utilities Corporation”.

In the year 1970, Rival Industries bought Naxon, which also gave them the rights for the Beanery. Rival’s exploration into the slow cookers’ world had begun. With the same method, the company found that many types of foods cooked magnificently. Once this was discovered 25,000 cookers were brought out and sold to the public as the first official Crock-Pot during 1971.

With this product, in the year 1974, its inside crock could be removed for cleaning in which became another innovation. Also people were encouraged to save energy. This was easy when using the low-wattage Crock-Pot.

Rival started to show career-oriented women on how to easily fix meals with their slow cooker. Cooking a meal while away at work was appealing to working women and the Rival very much knew it. In the middle of the 70s, different versions were made by other companies. Although, a lot of them are no longer around.
