Great Cooking Tips for Main Course

Cooking is something we do everyday in one way or the other. Whether we are making breakfast, lunch or dinner, making a sandwich or baking a cookie, we need a recipe to follow. Sometimes we may not follow a written recipe because the food is one that is very easy to prepare and we have it memorized, like making a sandwich, but in actual fact we are still following a recipe even though it is one that is in our subconscious. People are also more health conscious these days. More and more people are on a healthy diet and they want to cook healthy diet food. They know that a complete meal should consist of every food group including meat, carbohydrates, vegetables, fruits, and so no. The healthy diet pyramid tells you what you should have in your ingredients.

Tastier Meat Through Marinating

When you are cooking meat, the best way to prepare it is to marinate. There are several reasons why marinating is a better idea than simply coating the meat with whatever tasty substance you want to have on it. For example, when you cook with barbeque sauce, if you are cooking on the grill or in the oven or on the stove top a good cooking tip is to marinate the meat for at least 24 hours in the refrigerator. The meat soaks up a lot of the sauce flavors when it is left to marinate. If you were to baste your meat with the sauce and then try to cook it, you would find the sauce would come off or char off the meat. A better idea is to marinate it and in the last few minutes of cooking coat it with barbeque sauce. You will still get the strong flavor without the burned char. Marinating almost always works and the same is true for using many other toppings in your recipes.

Using Greased Cooking Pans

For many people who are just normal, at home cooks, stove top cooking is the most popular way to cook. It is easy, simple, and almost anyone can do it. However, it is important to know several cooking tips if you are going to cook on the stove top. Whatever you are doing, one of the best cooking tips is to grease the pan. Many people like to use Teflon and other nonstick pans, but for many reasons these can be unsafe, especially if they are scratched, if they are scratched, throw them out. Instead, use stainless steel. If you do use stainless steel, greasing the pan is a requirement you need to do, if you don’t want food sticking to the pan. It does not matter what you use, whether it is butter, olive oil, or a nonstick spray, it is so important to keep the pan lubricated so your food does not stick.
